2022.01.28 02:30 iceberg305 Please help me understand my utility bills
Hey everyone, apologies if this is the wrong sub, I don’t know where else to ask my questions. Also forgive my ignorance, I never really was interested in this things before so I’m really naive about bills and would accept anything a utility company would tell me without questioning it.
I am a single woman living in Calgary in an apartment building. My unit is an east facing 1 bedroom apartment about 560 square feet. It does have en suite laundry (a first for me!) but I am home about half the month since I work in aviation. When I’m home, I do one load a week for clothes and about every 2 weeks for my sheets (depending on how many nights I slept in my bed). I don’t use the dishwasher they provided because the dishes don’t feel very clean whenever I tried using it. This my first time ever living somewhere where I have to pay a water bill and I don’t know if there’s something wrong or not really. My water bills so far comes out to about 30$/month plus 3.75 each month as an admin fee. It says I use on average 24 100GAL. It seems very excessive seeing as I am only there half the month but again I have never paid a water bill before. I’m also wondering if it’s normal to be charged 3.75 every month for an admin fee. I would understand the first month but the other months ?
I also now have an electricity bill that’s averaging 50$/month. I used to live with a roommate in a 2 bedroom apartment that didn’t have ensuite and our electricity bill was always around 30$ and before that was a studio where I paid around 20-25$ Since my place is very small and east facing, I don’t really turn on the lights so the only thing I can think off that would get my bill so high is the laundry. Would doing laundry at a maximum of 6 times a month really double an electricity bill like that ? Heating is supposed to be included in my rent. I do have the tv on in the evenings but not like 24/7 tv on. I also only ever have 1 light on at a time, habit from growing up.
If those numbers make sense, any suggestions on how to lower my utility costs? I thought I was doing good at not wasting but maybe not. It’s still under 100$ a month so it’s not bad, but I wouldn’t even know if it’s too much or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

After seeing all these crazy utility bill posts I just wanted to see what temperature people keep their homes at. Please comment how much the cold snap usage was for electricity/wategas/etc as well since cost isn’t the best determining factor

2022.01.28 02:30 EdwEd1 Cleveland 2022: Why having fans vote for the starters is not necessarily a bad thing (and better than the alternative)
TL;DR: Letting fans have control over All-Star starters is stupid, but much safer and less stupid than letting them have power over reserves. Removing fan votes entirely would be the best decision, but it's clear the NBA has no intention of doing that. This is a one-time problem and as such the system is better left alone or slightly tweaked than changed completely.
Is Andrew Wiggins' selection as an All-Star starter stupid? Yes, absolutely.
But since the NBA insists on having fan votes affect All-Star selections, having them affect starters is miles better and much egregious than the (possible) alternative, which is having them affect reserves instead.
Firstly, Wiggins' selection is nowhere near a Zaza situation. If we look at the All-Star Voting Results, we can see that Wiggins was ranked 5th by his peers, as well as 6th in the media. If we remove fan voting entirely, he would still place 5th by the current voting methods (which is honestly terrible, but more on that later). Draymond Green would have been selected instead.
While going from 3rd to 5th without fan voting isn't good for him, it shows that Wiggins had some merit in playing in the All-Star game, opposed to other "troll" votes in previous years.
Of course, the NBA could remove fan voting entirely, and it would be a much better system (also, the way Media/PlayeFan votes are weighted is stupid. Make them a percentage rather than by "rank"). But it's clear they want the interaction and it won't happen.
However, the NBA was to change fan voting from affecting Starters to affecting Reserves, it would be a much worse situation.
The fact of the matter is this: Being an All-Star Starter versus All-Star Reserve means absolutely nothing in retrospect, less than nothing.
In 2020, Kemba Walker was an All-Star Starter. I am confident that 95% of NBA fans are unaware that this ever happened, let alone have any opinion on that fact whatsoever (Yes, he deserved to be one).
Fans, analysts, and ultimately Hall of Fame voters look at All-Star appearances as binary: Either you're in, or you're not. Nobody is counting Starter appearances versus Reserve appearances versus Injury Replacement appearances.
The coaches' vote acts as the great equalizer. Out of the Media, the Fans, and the Players themselves, I personally trust them the most. Therefore, being able to select the 14 reserves is a much greater power than simply 10 starters; for the most part, everyone knows who the best 10 players of the season are and will vote for them. However, the 14 reserves require much more nuance and knowledge, something the fans (and media) lack.
As a result, these players who were "screwed over" by this system are, ultimately, not being screwed over at all. As a matter of fact, players deserving of being an All-Star would be much worse off if the selection method was flipped, since the voters would decide who is in/out, rather than what designation they are playing as.
Yes, in this scenario, one borderline All-Star West player (might) be sitting on the couch because of Wiggins. But that's much better than letting fans have power over snubs entirely.
Draymond Green will be an All-Star. Rudy Gobert will be an All-Star. KAT will be an All-Star. They will just all be reserves instead of one being a starter, and let's not act like it truly matters.

2022.01.28 02:30 -nn23- Why not desinfect with 70% ISO + 30% H2O2 (3%)
why not mix 700ml ISO wirh 300 ml H²O² and use this as desinfect? My Google research says that it's no problem to mix those 2, no gases, no explosion, no superpowers ^^
ISO kills best bacteria, H²O² is better with spores. Why not use best of both worlds? Any reason? Somebody already tried that?

2022.01.28 02:30 sheikhcharliewilson The health care in Ontario isn’t underfunded, just inefficient
Canada’s total healthcare spending per capita is on the higher side compared to other western countries, and Ontario’s health spending per capita is similar to the Canadian average. The government isn’t pinching pennies.
For whatever reason the health care here system is just less efficient and we get poorer results with the same amount of money compared to other countries. Too many administrators? Higher physician salaries? Wasteful spending? Who knows.
It’s incredibly juvenile to assume that any problems with a government service must be due to lack of funds. Throwing more money at problems usually isn’t the best solution.

2022.01.28 02:30 Jake1234204 Multiple Finance Courses?
Is there a way that I can take multiple finance courses in a single semester? I transferred from a community college as a junior and through no inherent fault of my own I am far behind on my major coursework. I need to take FIN 321, 411, and a choice between 230, 241, 490, 494, and 495. Can I bundle up several of these classes in one semester (for example take 321 and 411 in the fall)? I only have two semesters before I am supposed to graduate, am I screwed?
On the other hand, does anyone know if any of these classes are available to be taken online or during the summewinter semesters?

2022.01.28 02:30 PM_GirlsKissingGirls The actual best and worst episodes (not ozymandias)
There have been a lot of inaccurate ratings given to episodes on online websites recently. Now, I’ve watched breakfasting bad 69 times now so I am something of an authority and I feel it’s my duty to actually clear up what the best and worst episodes are (trigger warning: spoilers).
Firstly, the worst episode by far is the one about the fly. It’s so bad I can’t even remember its name. It does nothing to further the plot and it introduces a whole new character (Fly), spends 40 minutes getting us invested in him and then kills him off, never to be seen or mentioned again. It’s the only episode which I hate to sit through. The crew couldn’t even be bothered to film in more than one place or throw in some eye candy (like Lydia or Jane) so the whole thing is just really boring and i find it really hard to get off to it. 2/10 unbravo vince.
But the best episode is so astoundingly genius that it makes up for all the shortcomings of the other episodes. I am of course talking about Dead Freight. When one sees that pussy-ass bitch drew sharp on his dirt bike in the cold open, one gets a sudden, strong urge to smash in the TV screen. I would go so far as to say I am reminded of the fly and tell myself i don’t want to sit though an entire episode in which this kid is alive in the universe that I’m watching. BUT THE PAYOFF AT THE END IS SO GOOD. And I’m not talking about the success of the ambitious heist. The unease, nausea and anxiety from seeing that ugly-ass virgin spider-fetishist at the beginning are beautifully resolved at the end when todd busts a cap in him and steals his bitch spider. The relief feels so satisfying when that unbearable tension that has been building up throughout the episode as the viewer knows that kid has still not got what’s coming to him come to a neat end. All I can say is bravo Vince and bravo Todd. The only thing I would have done differently is let Jesse have the honour of shooting drew sharp. Honestly he deserved it and he seemed quite upset that todd took that opportunity away from him. 9.9/10 bravos.
