2022.01.28 02:57 thefuckouttaherelol2 Dear Developers - PLEASE make your number formatting consistent!

I cannot stress how EASY this should be.
function displayNumber(num) => { return format logic for numbers goes here }
And using that consistently in every single number display label in your game.
Oh, and in case inputs seem complicated:
function getNumericValue(inputText) => { return conversion of number text to actual number here }
Again, use this function in every single input box in your game.
It is mind-bogglingly frustrating how some very prominent incremental games don't do this. Sometimes numbers are entirely unreadable because they grow so large that they literally overlap or get hidden behind other elements.
Also, while I'm venting... if you're going to spend MONTHS working on an incremental game... consider building your UIs using flexbox layouts! Many incrementals are obvious candidates for mobile responsive / adaptive layouts but without using CSS that can be made naturally progressive, this isn't bound to happen easily. Remember it's easier to make a decision like this upfront than it is to try and retrofit a desktop UI to mobile later!
Heck, start off with something like Bootstrap for your layouts if that makes things easier. If you're using a cross-platform gaming framework, check out if it has mobile-first layout capabilities (it's generally much easier to go from mobile --> desktop than desktop --> mobile).
End rant / request.

2022.01.28 02:57 yokesh351 Bitcoin no, NFT yes: China strikes back with platform for non-fungible tokens

China has just launched its own centralized non-fungible token (NFT) platform directly controlled by the Chinese government. Its use will require each user to verify their identity.
The announcement of this launch was recently published by the South China Morning Post portal. As detailed by the media, it was a soft launch (for a limited audience.
The platform was put into operation within the Chinese Government 's blockchain - the Blockchain Services Network. This network that works centrally and under state control.
It should be remembered that public and decentralized cryptocurrency networks are prohibited in this Asian country (this includes Bitcoin). The prohibition is based on the fact that they offer a certain level of anonymity and privacy, which the State cannot monitor. Because of this, development of NFTs , as they are known today, minted on networks like Ethereum, cannot circulate within the country.
The launch already has several promoters within the nation, including telecom giant China Mobile and state-owned payment processor China Union Pay.
This non-fungible token platform is available for use only by residents of China. Users will be able to mint their own NFTs with commissions that will be around USD 0.007. Payments will be made through traditional means with fiat money or through the Central Bank's state cryptocurrency, the digital yuan.
NFTs do not circulate in China NFTs are tokens that live on top of a cryptocurrency network. It can be, among others, Ethereum, Terra, Solana, or even Bitcoin. Because all of these networks are open, they do not have government permission to operate within China. Bitcoin transactions are considered illegal by the Central Bank of China, which has intensified controls since last September.
Because of these crackdowns by the Chinese government, companies that had already launched NFTs had to find a solution. In this case, companies like AntChain and Tencent, leaders in the Chinese technology market, made the decision to call NFTs “collectible tokens”.
Under the concept of "collectible token" some NFTs were able to continue to circulate in the Chinese market, albeit under strict regulations. One of these is that those who buy a token of this type must keep it for a minimum period of 180 days. The token cannot be transferred from one wallet to another in this period, as this would lead to fines.
Blockchain centralized and controlled by the State, nothing to do with Bitcoin China has tried, on multiple occasions, to ban Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in its territory. Although any transaction with this cryptoactive is currently considered "illegal", China has already tried to close the doors to bitcoin 8 times , without any success.
Although China seems to "hate" Bitcoin, it gives the impression that it does not hate its technology. The centralized blockchain on which the development of NFT platform is built is nothing more than a copy of the original technology used by Satoshi Nakamoto: Bitcoin.
The allegations of prohibiting the use of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in the country are based, among other things, on the possible "money laundering" that could exist with its use. This argument is usually based on the fact that it is not possible to know which person is behind each transaction (unless this person leaves "footprints" that give them away). In contrast, in the China Blockchain Services Network, each user must verify their identity.
For now the platform is starting to see its first customers. As detailed by the South China Morning Post, the use of NFT technology would be oriented to very specific use cases such as the registration of car plates, which gives its owner the authenticity of its possession.

2022.01.28 02:57 hlanus Culture of the Technate

First time posting here but I have been wondering about what sort of culture a Technocratic state would have. Obviously this will depend on a LOT of factors, including the historical and cultural baggage of the people before being brought under a technocratic government; a Russian Technate will clearly be different from a South American Technate which will be different from an Islamic Technate. But at the same time there would be cultural traits that technocracy would promote over others simply because if you want to get ahead in life you need to play the game.
Here are my main cultural traits for a hypothetical Technate. Now these will be very generalized but I am hoping to start a civil conversation.

  1. Intellectualism: obviously technocracy favors expertise and knowledge over popularity, wealth, or connections, so to get ahead you will need some sort of education preferably in science and mathematics, or at the very least the scientific method, logic, and statistics.
  2. Syndicalism: this comes from job specialization, where people will be categorized into specific fields based on their skills and background. These categories will select leaders based on expertise to direct their efforts and report issues to their higher-ups, making this similar to what Syndicalists envisioned in the 1920s.
  3. Secularism: a Technate need not foster state atheism, but religion tends to offer remedies and solutions that simply do not work, nor have any real basis in science to back them up. Thus, the state will be secular with a strong wall between Church and state, where people are free to worship as they see fit but religious ideas will be treated with no more reverence than secular ones.
  4. Pragmatism: the reliance on facts and logic means that the people will favor results over ideals.
  5. Honesty: in order to assess the practicality of ideas one must view them with an unbiased eye, meaning honesty and integrity are essential to advancement and success.
  6. Directness: to best set up the experiments to see whether an idea works, direct communication with as little ambiguity as possible would be the best path forward.
  7. Anti-democracy/anti-populism: seeing how easily democracy can be corrupted by wealth or hijacked by populists would leave a very sour taste in the mouths of technocrats, leaving them to see the "common" people as needing "guidance" much like Plato's Philosopher Kings.
  8. Anti-humanism: this is a little harder to quantify, but the emphasis on pragmatism and the rather elitist sentiments of the Technate would mean that human rights are treated more as optional, or at the very least of a lower priority than the Technate's survival.
Now I must emphasize that this is my own personal thoughts, and I could very well be wrong. But that's what this Reddit is for: to explore ideas and work out the kinks.

2022.01.28 02:57 BeaugosseRiche What's the replay value like? What are your experiences?

I started playing Yakuza since the PS2 games.
Since then, I've played 1-6 (including the Kiwamis) as well as Judgment. I played 7 for about 60 hours, but found it so mediocre that I'm not sure I'll ever finish it.
Anyway, I'm not much into most games that are being released nowadays, and Yakuza gave me my finest, most engaging gaming moments. I'm considering replaying them all, but I'm not sure how that would hold up, as I already know the story, the side quests... and I've already suffered through the tedious repetitive parts (such as some of the grinding side hustles).
What's your experience replaying the entire saga, or even one full game? Did you just give up? Did you fully enjoy it?
